§ 11842. Evaluation of drug abuse education and prevention efforts

(a) Method The Secretary of Health and Human Services shall develop and conduct a structured evaluation of the different approaches utilized across the Nation to reduce drug abuse.
(b) Grants The Secretary of Health and Human Services may make grants to or enter into contracts with appropriate entities for the purpose of conducting the evaluations required by subsection (a) of this section.
(c) Time of reports The Secretary shall submit a report based on the evaluations prepared under subsection (a) of this section not later than 1 year after
November 18, 1988 , and another report based on such evaluations not later than 3 years afterNovember 18, 1988 . A third report based on such evaluations shall be submitted by the Secretary not later thanJanuary 1, 1994 .(d) Authorization of appropriations To carry out this section, there are authorized to be appropriated $12,000,000 in fiscal year 1989, and $15,000,000 for each of the fiscal years 1990 through 1993.

1989—Subsec. (a). Pub. L. 101–93 and Pub. L. 101–204, § 1001(c)(1)(A)(ii), made identical amendments, striking out “(as defined in section 11851(6) of this title)” after “drug abuse”.
Pub. L. 101–204, § 1001(c)(1)(A)(i), struck out “, acting through the Administrator,” before “shall develop”.
Subsec. (b). Pub. L. 101–204, § 1001(c)(1)(B), substituted “Secretary of Health and Human Services” for “Administrator”.
